MC at Home Unit 1: The origins of English

Tailored for individual or small group learners, the Maximum Classics at Home course features guided video lessons, printable workbooks, interactive quizzes and progress tracking. In Unit 1 we explore the close ties between modern English and ancient languages, then start learning some Latin.

MC at Home Unit 2: Verbs

Romans were big on doing, and so Latin is a very verby language. Logical, then, that we start with verbs. In this unit, we learn six verbs and the endings that show us who is doing the action in the present tense.

MC at Home Unit 3: Adverbs

We’ve had a look at verbs, so let’s look at making them a bit more interesting by learning about adverbs and how they work in Latin and English.

MC at Home Unit 4: Nouns

We’ve seen a few Latin nouns in the first unit of this course, but now it’s time to learn more. Unit 4 expands our knowledge of two types of Latin noun.

MC at Home Unit 5: Translation technique

It’s time to take stock of everything we’ve learned so far, and then to learn a useful technique to help you keep calm and translate on when faced with longer Latin sentences.

MC at Home Unit 6: numbers and ‘to be’

Two new pieces of Latin learning in this unit. Firstly, we look at some  Latin numbers and their English derivatives. That’s followed by an exploration of ‘being’ verbs.

MC at Home Unit 7: Adjectives

New unit, new word class! In this unit, we learn how Latin adjectives work, and how they have to match the noun they’re describing.

MC at Home Unit 8: Prepositions

In Unit 8, we meet another new word class – prepositions. Not only do we learn to translate them in Latin sentences, but we investigate how they often show up as English prefixes.
